It Takes a Fearless Spirit

There is a quote from Elizabeth Lesser, "It takes a fearless spirit to live in the mystery".

I have been sitting here, staring at this empty blog space for the past few weeks. It takes a fearless spirit to live in the mystery... the mystery of life and death is something that is always in the back of my mind, contemplated by all human beings since the dawn of time. I remember when I was a little kid, I used to cry because I didn't want to ever die. As we grow older, life and death become acceptable, inevitable. We understand that there are so many things- mysteries- that are out of our human control, and we manage to continue living our lives despite never being able to understand why we are here, or why we die.

I've written a few blog posts about "living in the moment", and the phrase itself has become such a cliche, though its so true. When we live in the moment, we fully realize that every moment is precious. Every single minute shared with someone we love, with nature, even alone with our own thoughts, is fleeting and irreplacable.

So, it does take a fearless spirit to accept life's lessons and challenges, to carry on with our own lives when someone we love suddenly- and meaninglessly- dies. It takes a fearless spirit to hold our heads up, while we ponder- "why?". And, its the fearless spirit that, in the end of this life as we know it, will boldly step into the unknown, leave everyone and everything known, to become part of the mystery.
